A DMET cadet of 1969 batch he served DMET as Engineering Faculty and Deputy Director., after a prolonged sea-service. Also worked with IIPM as faculty. Presently an engineering examiner with MMD, Kolkata Mr.Purkayastha is a well-known figure among the shipping fraternity. He is one of the promoter members of the institute.
